Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our premium weathering steel products.

What exactly is Corten steel?

Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a high-strength alloy that develops a stable, attractive rust-like appearance when exposed to the elements. This protective layer acts as a barrier against further corrosion, eliminating the need for painting.

How long does the weathering process take?

Typically, the characteristic orange-brown patina begins to form within a few weeks of outdoor exposure and stabilizes over 6 to 12 months. Factors like humidity, rainfall, and proximity to salt water can influence the speed of this process.

Will Corten steel stain my patio or driveway?

During the initial weathering phase, some runoff (bleeding) may occur, which can stain porous surfaces like concrete or stone. We recommend placing your planters or fire pits on grass, gravel, or using a protective tray until the patina is fully sealed.

What are your shipping rates for heavy items?

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the weight and dimensions of your order. Because Corten steel is heavy, larger items may be shipped via freight on a pallet to ensure they arrive safely at your doorstep.

Can I return custom-sized products?

While we offer a 30-day return policy for standard stock items, custom-cut or bespoke fabricated Corten steel products are non-refundable unless they arrive damaged or defective.

Do I need to treat the steel with any chemicals?

No treatment is necessary. The beauty of Corten steel is its maintenance-free nature. The rust layer itself protects the core metal from structural degradation, ensuring your products last for decades.
